Core Modules & Creative Customization
A standard Bullet Journal comprises several key sections. Below is how to set each up—with ideas to make them uniquely yours.
2.1 The Index
Your table of contents.
-
Setup: Reserve the first two pages. Number every page in your notebook as you go.
-
Usage: After creating any new module or collection, log its title and page number in the Index.
-
Pro Tip: Use color‑coded tabs or drawn headers (e.g., a small icon) so you can flip to the Index and find pages faster visually.
2.2 Future Log
A panoramic view of the next 6–12 months.
-
Layout Options: -
Traditional: Two‑page spread divided into 6 monthly blocks.
-
Calendar‑Style: Mini calendars for each month.

-
-
Entries: Long‑term appointments, deadlines, and goals—e.g., “May 12: Project proposal due,” or “Q3: Read 3 business books.”
-
Customization: Add a “Vision Board” section with small images or quotes that capture your year’s aspirations.
2.3 Monthly Log
A snapshot of the current month.
-
Left Page (Calendar): List dates vertically with weekdays.
-
Right Page (Task List): Bullet tasks you aim to complete this month.
-
Color‑Coding: Assign a color marker per life area (Work, Health, Personal) and highlight or frame tasks accordingly to balance priorities.
2.4 Daily Log
Where you rapid‑log tasks, events, and notes day by day.
-
Header: Date and day of the week, maybe a micro‑gratitude note (“Grateful for…”).
-
Bullets & Signifiers: -
• Task →● Completed →▶️ Migrated
-
○ Event
-
– Note
-
* Priority

-
-
Time‑Blocking: If you need more structure, add a narrow time‑column down one side (e.g., 6 am–10 pm) and slot key meetings or exercise blocks.
2.5 Collections
Any themed log you need: reading lists, project steps, mood trackers, financial budgets.
-
Example—Mood Tracker: Create a 31‑square calendar grid; assign each a color for a mood (blue for calm, yellow for happy, red for stressed). Fill daily.
-
Example—Project Plan: Break a complex project into phases: Research, Draft, Review, Launch—each with its own sub‑tasks and due‑dates logged.
